Baby journal prompts: 85 small things to write down

Wondering what to write in a baby memory book? These 85 baby journal prompts are for parents recording their own child’s story, from pregnancy to the first birthday and beyond. Pick one question and answer it in a sentence. You can leave the rest for another day.

Use these baby book prompts beside a photo, in a notebook or in a digital book. Skip anything that does not fit your family. The month headings are places to collect memories; they do not describe what a baby should be doing at any age.

Make it a page

Pick one prompt and one photo. For “What happened just before we took your monthly photo?”, you might write: “We had just come back from a rainy walk, and your socks were still in my coat pocket.” Add the photo and those words in Pagewren, our iPhone baby memory book, and they become a page.

The prompts are here on this website; Pagewren has no built-in writing prompt feature. You can keep a separate book for each child, share a page as an image, and export a Classic PDF. A photo without words or a sentence without a photo can also be a page.

Questions people ask

How often should I write in a baby journal?

Write whenever you have a moment you want to keep. One sentence beside a monthly photo is a workable starting point; you do not need a daily entry.

What if I have no time or have missed several months?

Choose one older photo and write the detail you still remember. You can leave gaps. Pagewren can batch-import older photos from your photo library when you want to catch up.

Can I keep a separate baby book for each child?

Yes. Pagewren lets you keep a separate book for each child, so each child can have their own photos, words and memories.

Are these baby book prompts built into Pagewren?

No. These prompts are on this website, and Pagewren has no built-in writing prompt feature. You can answer a question here in your own words and add those words to a page in the app.

Can I print the prompts or save them as a PDF?

Yes. Click Print the prompts. The print version keeps the title, group headings and prompt lists. Choose Save as PDF in the print window, or use the PDF menu on a Mac. On iPhone, tap Share in the print options to save a PDF to Files.
